Name Recombinant FABP3 (rFABP3)
What is rFABP3? FABP3 protein is a small cytoplasmic protein encoded by the FABP3 gene. It is involved in active fatty acid metabolism where it transports fatty acids from the cell membrane to mitochondria for oxidation. FABP are divided into at least three distinct types, namely the hepatic, intestinal and cardiac types.
What is it used for? It is used as a biomarker for myocardial infarction.
