Researchers at Yashraj Biotechnology Ltd. expressed and purified recombinant human MUC1/Y, a tumor-associated MUC1 isoform, from E. coli BL21(DE3) and developed a repertoire of monoclonal antibodies against it.

Among them, clone 9A842G6 reacted specifically with MUC1/Y, showing fluorescence in breast cancer tissue sections with no binding to fibroadenoma sections, and was confirmed by immunoblotting. The findings suggest MUC1/Y as a potential secondary marker for breast cancer diagnosis alongside CA 15-3.
