This research article presents a simplified and cost-effective purification approach for urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), an important biomarker associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). The study uses tangential flow filtration (TFF) followed by ion exchange chromatography to isolate NGAL from large-volume urine samples, enabling an efficient and scalable purification strategy.

The purified NGAL was further validated using SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, and mass spectrometry, confirming its purity, molecular identity, and suitability for diagnostic applications. This work highlights the potential of the method for large-scale production of high-purity NGAL to support clinical biomarker assay development and bio diagnostic applications.
